News > HV Asset Maintenance Strategy
December 22, 2017

TxMonitor® successfully completed the development of a High Voltage (HV) Electrical Asset Maintenance Strategy for a company providing essential services in the ACT. The strategy involved a holistic approach to the single line diagram involving rotating machines (synchronous generators and motors), transformers, switchboards, and cables.

Why develop a HV Electrical Asset Maintenance Strategy?

  • Reduced failure risk
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Extended asset life
  • Increased asset availability
  • Improved plant safety

The customer provided asset data which was reviewed, and an asset register was defined. Following this a Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) was completed on subject assets. Based on these findings adequate primary maintenance tasks were identified and a maintenance task based strategy was developed. The maintenance tasks were grouped in logical maintenance routes by trade, equipment status, frequency, and acceptable conditions. Tasks were further segregated into online and offline test and inspections. For each task an Acceptable Conditions and Corrective Actions (ACCA) matrix was established.

During the execution of the project, a methodology that combines practices from Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Preventive Maintenance Optimisation (PMO) and our own Asset Health Index System (AHIS) was utilised.

Examples below are simple analysis of distribution transformers; for a comprehensive analysis please contact TxMonitor® for further details.
